POSITION OVERVIEW

dormakaba is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our Product Development team in Indianapolis, IN. Our Engineering group leads in ensuring our products meet or exceed expectations of our customers.  This role is responsible for supporting our Product Development Design teams and ensuring designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly in our plants as well as supporting DFA/DFM during concepting phases, material, manufacturability planning during design phases, assembly layout, and process mapping during launch phases.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Expert understanding of manufacturing processes and their needs (inputs) used within the dormakaba plants
  • Acts as a connection between Product Development and our operations teams, allowing us to plan and accelerate product introduction and launch with minimal impact to operations personnel.
  • Leads and mentors other Manufactuiring Engineers within the department on tools, skills, and tasks
  • Expert understanding of operations processes and optimization models through tools such as Value Stream Mapping, PFMEA, etc.
  • Leads efforts to conduct studies and execute deliverables on Product Development projects to ensure material handling and work stream optimization are completed
  • Takes ownership of MFG BOMs and routings, and ensure proper alignment with operations in support of Product Development
  • Leads efforts to plan and create assembly lines, routing, work-instructions etc. for new products being launched into operations
  • Designs for components/fixtures/equipment will be done in CAD (CREO) and Stored in Windchill
  • Participates in DFMEA and Root Cause analysis reviews as needed by Product Development
  • Supports Design and Peer reviews as needed
  • Supports leadership in team building and team culture development and growth

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in one of the following areas:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering and /Technologies
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologies
  • Mechatronics Engineering Technologies
  • Master’s degree in related field a plus
  • Minimum 8 years work experience in engineering
  • Must manipulate a computer keyboard
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to verbally communicate via telephone
  • Must be able to life 10 pounds
  • Must have good vision and adjusted focus
  • Must be able to use public transportation for business travel

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes required
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing equipment used in component and assembly manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience with fixture and gauge design and implementation
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Time management and organization skills required
  • Comprehension of kinematics, statics, dynamics, stress analysis, properties of materials, and mechanism design required
  • Applied knowledge of electro-mechanics and electronics packaging preferred
  • Ability to perform DFMEA (effect analysis), DFM/DFA, and C&E analyses required
  • Skills and experience with personal computers and applications which include electronic E-mail, personal scheduling, word processing, electronic spreadsheet, and project management required
  • High level proficiency in 3D CAD modeling & detailing Required - Creo/ProE preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAD Data Management systems Required - Windchill preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP or ERP (resource planning) systems preferred
  • Ability to solve complex problems using proven engineering methods
  • Ability to be detail focused and accountable
  • Self-Motivated to achieve and drive requirements to completion
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated understanding of due diligence
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfortable being hands on with components, systems, and equipment
  • Experience and comfortable in Manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of Measurement Analysis and different methods of measuring components and systems
