Position Overview
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). The RTE’s major responsibilities are the facilitation of all major ART events, oversight over SAFe processes and supporting the teams in delivering value.
RTEs communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive continuous improvement.
What you will do
- Work collaboratively with her/his peers at engineering management and with the development teams to maximize productivity
- Organize and monitor schedules and see that deadlines are met
- Coordinate efforts within at least one Agile Release Train (ART)
- Report updates verbally and in writing to management
- Monitor utilization within the ART and help ensure resources are used efficiently and coordinates efforts within at least one Agile Release Train (ART)
- Organize ART modifications such as on-boarding and off-boarding of teams in collaboration with other staff members of the Lean Agile Center of Excellence (LACE), and Engineering Management.
- Hold basic trainings to SAFe specific topics and tools
What we require
- 5 years of agile development (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, …)
- Practical experience as Release Train Engineer or Scrum Master – alternatively recognized certification in any of these areas
- Academic degree in electrical engineering, computer science, IT or comparable
Key Accountabilities
• Manage and optimize the flow of value across the Agile Release Train (ART), leveraging SAFe practices, Program Kanban, and data-driven insights using AI to support teams in achieving their objectives and commitments.
• Ensure successful PI (Program Increment) Planning readiness by facilitating the preparation of vision, priorities, dependencies, and backlogs, proactively addressing risks and impediments. Partner with Product Management, Product Owners, Initiative Owners, Epic Owners, Architects, and other stakeholders to align strategy, planning, and execution across the ART.
• Drive continuous improvement by monitoring and analyzing Agile performance indicators, such as feature completion rates, predictability, and delivery outcomes, enabling data-informed decision-making using AI tools.
• Foster collaboration and shared understanding across teams, stakeholders, and System/Solution Architects through effective communication, communities of practice, and alignment activities.
• Support the tracking and achievement of PI Objectives and feature delivery commitments, ensuring transparency through timely and accurate reporting.
• Coach leaders, Scrum Masters, and teams in Lean-Agile principles, SAFe practices, and Agile mindsets to strengthen delivery capabilities and organizational agility.
