POSITION OVERVIEW

dormakaba is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to be a vital part of our business and future growth on our Operations and Manufacturing Team in Indianapolis, IN. This position is responsible for planning the arrangement of equipment to ensure most efficient and productive process layout.  This position documents and specifies routine, regular procedures and work instructions for the use of equipment and processes that affect product performance. The position develops and evaluates equipment and tools for efficiency. The incumbent is responsible for investigating and initiating corrective actions and performing root cause analysis.  The incumbent ensures corrective actions are communicated to the production personnel through work instructions or procedure updates and training.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Analyze highly complex production and processes.  Plan the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.  Direct the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Document and maintain process procedures, work instructions and tool drawings.
  • Review performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for rejected or faulty parts.  Research work processes and conduct failure analysis to determine cause of error or problem parts. 
  • Analyze SPC (statistical process control) data for identified work processes to ensure level of performance.
  • Assist with instructing, training, and answering area-specific questions for less experienced Manufacturing Engineers or other departmental personnel.
  • Conduct “make vs. buy” analysis on new or existing parts/processes.
  • Establish acceptance criteria for new tools, equipment, and/or processes.
  • Serve as a technical resource and Manufacturing liaison to Supply Management and New Product Development for new and existing parts, products, and processes.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as described in the quality system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering/Technology, from an accredited institution preferred
  • 3 years experience in a manufacturing or process environment preferred
  • Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) preferred
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively via telephone, multiple forms of electronic mediums, and within a group environment for business presentations
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
