Position Overview
dormakaba are expanding their embedded software engineering team in the Community of Madrid, Spain, to take on the challenges of producing future proofed, integrated physical access control products to be utilised in various applications, from the office to the factory to international transportation hubs.
We are currently looking for an embedded software engineer to develop, maintain and evolve embedded firmware across dormakaba's Automatic Access Solutions product portfolio, and help migrate those products onto the common Zephyr-based ECPLA platform. You will be delivering reliable, secure and reusable firmware that supports the entire access & automation range.
Working in collaboration with both local colleagues and remotely with individuals across Europe, your work will be fundamental in ensuring our products maintain their reputation as best in the industry and are trusted by a range of high-profile business and government organisations throughout the world.
This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Embedded Software engineer to join dormakaba in the Community of Madrid, working on high profile projects for our range of integrated access control and security system products.
What you will do
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C for our Automatic Access Solutions products, working close to the hardware with USB, UART, I2C, SPI, and CAN peripherals
- Work on our current product stack (Keil MDK, FreeRTOS) while contributing to the migration of those products onto the Zephyr-based ECPLA platform
- Pick up Zephyr's build and configuration model — devicetree, Kconfig, and the West workspace tool — and use it day to day as products move over.
- Utilize strong analytical skills to predict and foresee any problems and be able to come up with workable solutions
- Implement and integrate shared platform services through clean, documented APIs
- Write unit tests and support integration / HIL testing
- Bring up and debug hardware-software integration
What we require
- 3–5 years in embedded firmware development — embedded C on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers
- Experience with at least one RTOS
- Comfortable with embedded debugging (SWD/JTAG, logic analyser, oscilloscope) and reading schematics/datasheets..
- Working knowledge of Git and embedded build/toolchain workflows
- Business Fluency English
What we prefer
- Hands-on Zephyr RTOS experience (devicetree, Kconfig, West) — or a clear appetite to ramp up quickly.
- STM family experience, especially H5 or H7
- Knowledge / experience of any of the following:
- CAN / CANopen / CANopen FD stacks
- Secure boot and firmware-update flows (MCUboot, A/B partitioning
What we offer
