Job Purpose

The Senior Installer is responsible for carrying out and leading the installation of dormakaba access solutions at project sites. This includes automatic doors, manual doors, access control equipment and related mechanical and electrical components.

The role requires strong installation and machining knowledge to ensure components can be accurately measured, fabricated, modified and fitted according to approved drawings, product requirements and actual site conditions.

The Senior Installer will also supervise and guide installers and subcontractors, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, to the required quality standard and within the project schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise the installation of automatic doors, manual doors, access solutions and related mechanical and electrical components.
  • Read, interpret and work according to approved drawings, technical specifications, method statements and installation manuals.
  • Carry out site measurements, setting-out and alignment checks before and during installation.
  • Apply machining knowledge and practical skills, including accurate measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, grinding, tapping, threading and fitting of metal components.
  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools and machining equipment safely and correctly.
  • Fabricate or modify brackets, mounting plates, frames and other components to suit approved installation requirements and actual site conditions.
  • Lead and coordinate installers and subcontractors to ensure installation activities are completed safely, efficiently and according to schedule.
  • Conduct site assessments and identify installation constraints, dimensional discrepancies and interface issues before commencing work.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical and installation-related issues encountered on site.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, site representatives, clients and subcontractors regarding access, work sequencing, technical requirements and installation progress.
  • Inspect completed installations to ensure proper alignment, operation, finishing and compliance with project and product requirements.
  • Carry out basic testing, adjustment and commissioning support for installed products and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, risk assessments, safe work procedures, company policies and site requirements.
  • Protect installed products and surrounding finishes from damage during installation activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily progress, manpower deployment, materials used, site issues and completed work.
  • Report defective, damaged, missing or unsuitable materials promptly to the responsible Project Manager or Engineer.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching and technical guidance to junior installers and technicians.
  • Maintain proper care, control and accountability for company-issued tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Perform other installation and site-related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Relevant NITEC, Higher NITEC, technical certification or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, Metal Fabrication, Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant installation experience, preferably involving automatic doors, architectural hardware, access control systems, aluminium works or mechanical equipment.
  • Practical machining and fabrication knowledge is essential.
  • Competent in measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, grinding, tapping, threading and fitting metal components.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, installation details and product manuals.
  • Familiar with the safe operation of hand tools, power tools and machining equipment.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and experience in wiring, testing or troubleshooting would be an advantage.
  • Able to identify site problems and propose practical and safe solutions.
  • Good leadership skills with the ability to guide installers and coordinate subcontractors.
  • Strong awareness of workplace safety, workmanship and quality requirements.
  • Able to communicate effectively with project teams, customers and other site stakeholders.
  • Physically fit and able to work at construction sites, including performing manual work and working at height where required.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends or irregular hours when required by the project schedule.
  • Possession of relevant safety certifications and a valid driving licence would be an advantage.
